On March 19 Minister of Defence of Ukraine Stepan Poltorak presented to Major General (Retired) Jonas Andriškevičius a badge of honour for merits to the Armed Forces of Ukraine and development of military cooperation, and Chief of the General Staff of Ukraine Army General Viktor Muzhenko presented the medal. The former Chief of Defence of Lithuania represented Lithuania in the Defence Reform Advisory Board in Ukraine.
Retired Maj Gen J. Andriškevičius was appointed to the Board in June 2016 at the request of the Minister of Defence of Ukraine. The strategic-level advisory Board was established to provide advice to the Chief of the General Staff and the Minister of Defence of Ukraine on defence system and armed forces reform. The Board also includes experts from the United Kingdom, United States of America, Canada, Germany, and Poland.
Minister of Defence of Ukraine addressed Lithuania’s Minister of National Defence asking to appoint a military or civilian representative who had held a high position and had experience in reforming the military. Retired Maj Gen J. Andriškevičius was the Chief of Defence of Lithuania in 1993–1999.
While on the Advisory Board in Ukraine, Maj Gen J.Andriškevičius supervised the area of armed forces professionalization and advised on the reform of military professional training and education in Ukraine. Also, officers training and establishment and development of an NCO system is coordinated by two advisors from the Lithuanian Armed Forces working at the NATO Representation in Ukraine.
