Minister of National Defence Robertas Kaunas met with Minister of Defence of Luxembourg Yuriko Backes during the formal visit to the country. Their talks focused on strengthening NATO deterrence and defence and initiatives for strengthening European security. Significant attention was also dedicated to cooperation in space. Ministers discussed the growing impact of space technology on security and defence and signed a Letter of Intent on strengthening partnership between Lithuania and Luxembourg in the area.
“Russia’s in Ukraine has demonstrated how satellite communications and other space technology has become an inseparable part on modern military operations. We value Luxembourg’s leadership in the space sector and the opportunity to develop the capabilities which will contribute to an improved efficiency and resilience of the Lithuanian Armed Forces,” said Minister of National Defence.
The signed Letter of Intent paves the way cooperation on satellite communications and other space capabilities. Ministers also discussed the possibilities to avail of the future EU space investments to strengthen security and defence capabilities of the countries.
