As of October 21 Eimutis Misiūnas assumes the position of the Vice Minister of National Defence overseeing procurement and acquisition at the National Defence System. He is replacing Giedrimas Jeglinskas who has been appointed as the NATO Assistant Secretary General for Executive Management and starts his work in Brussels.
Before the current appointment, E. Misiūnas worked as the Advisor to the Minister of National Defence from mid-September 2019 until present, and he was Lithuania’s Minister of the Interior for two and a half years before that. His work experience also includes positions at the District Court of Vilnius City, Special Investigation Service of the Republic of Lithuania, International School of Law and Business, he also worked as a lecturer at Mykolas Romeris University. Mr. E. Misiūnas has also practical experience in legal counselling.
“An intense period with new challenges is ahead of me. One of the main priorities for me as a Vice Minister will be to continue the transparency action in the Lithuanian National Defence public procurement and transformation of the area into an open and accountable structure – which will allow us to strengthen readiness for national defence in the long-term. I am certain that my recent work as an advisor to the Minister of National Defence will help me to tune into the work of the area that has been entrusted to me and of the political team of the Minister,” E. Misiūnas says.
E. Misiūnas holds a PhD in Social Sciences (Law) from Mykolas Romeris University, speaks English, French and Russian.
