On June 15 Minister of National Defence Raimundas Karoblis will attend a Baltic Defence Ministers meeting in Latvia in person. Minister will discuss security and defence and coordinate mutual positions ahead of the NATO and EU Defence Ministerials due next week at meetings with his Latvian Artis Pabriks and Estonian Jüri Luik counterparts in Alūksne and Gulbene. The meeting is planne to conclude with a video teleconference with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
Baltic Defence Ministers will also visit the Latvian armed forces base near Alūksne and lay flowers at the monument for the fallen in the First World War and freedom fights.
The three Baltic Defence Ministers last discussed security and defence via a video teleconference in mid-May. They addressed COVID-19 implications to defence capabilities and readiness, NATO and EU agenda, joint Baltic projects in defence area, accentuated the importance of respecting the transatlantic commitment of defence spending, and signed a joint communique.
