On February 13–14 Minister of National Defence Raimundas Karoblis will take part in the NATO Defence Ministers’ meeting in Brussels (Belgium) where strengthening of the NATO deterrence and defence will be addressed. A particular focus will be put on the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF Treaty) and NATO response to the violations of the Treaty on the Russian side.
NATO Defence Ministers will also take stock of the increased defence spending plans of members of the Alliance, and a separate session will address way forward for the NATO operation in Afghanistan.
In Brussels NATO Ministers of Defence will meet with High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini, Ministers of Defence of Sweden and Finland to discuss development of European defence capabilities and closer cooperation between the EU and NATO.
Ministers of Defence of the Alliance normally meet three times a year.
