On April 21 Minister of National Defence Raimundas Karoblis held a distance meeting with U.S. Ambassador in Lithuania HE Robert S. Gilchrist to discuss the influence of COVID-19 on Lithuania’s security and defence, U.S. assistance to Lithuania, and the unceasingly developed bilateral cooperation.
“Even though it is understandable that currently our main focus is on the mitigation on the COVID-19 pandemic, we have to remember that the conventional threats do not go away either. Bilateral cooperation with the United States and U.S. support to Lithuania is more important than ever. The presence of the U.S. battalion on the ground significantly increases Lithuania’s security and the assistance to capability development makes the Lithuanian Armed Forces stronger. We are grateful to the United States and consistently carry out our international commitments, as well as further invest into strengthening military capabilities, in our turn, in order to ensure security of NATO’s eastern flank alongside our allies,” Minister said.
