In attendance at the Foreign Affairs Council on Defence in Brussels, Tuesday, Minister of National Defence Arvydas Anušauskas met with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. They exchanged view and information regarding the hybrid attack from Belarus and the irregular migration crisis, as well as Lithuania’s political decisions and the necessity for EU countries to increase defence spending so that they have proper capabilities.
NATO Secretary General underscored to A. Anušauskas the meaning of NATO solidarity and assured of the Alliance’s vigilance and readiness to respond to the developing circumstances on the NATO border with Belarus. According to A. Anušauskas, the solidarity of NATO allies and a unified stance were key in this situation.
Minister also stressed to Secretary General the importance of supporting Ukraine. “The pressure Russia puts on Ukraine can not go uncalled out. We can see the connection between the crises in Belarus and Ukraine. We need to see the role of Russia in Belarus in a wider and longer perspective. In terms of military integration, Belarus is already an integral part of Russia.”
