February 2, the annual meeting of the Minister of National Defence and Defence Attachés accredited to Lithuania took place at the Ministry of National Defence. Minister Arvydas Anušauskas presented Lithuanian Defence Policy priorities, principal challenges facing the National Defence System and plans ahead.
A. Anušauskas particularly underscored the importance of carrying out modernization of the Lithuanian Armed Forces and strengthening it, as well as resilience of public authorities and readiness to respond to security threats.
“Last year proved that Lithuania‘s National Defence System is a solid instrument to counter various threats and challenges. We have adapted and fully supported other institutions, while maintaining our international commitments and developing cooperation with our allies and partners,” said Minister.
A. Anušauskas praised the intense cooperation and military interoperability with NATO, development of EU projects, the continued active Lithuanian contribution to international NATO, U.S., EU and UN-led operations, and also voiced a continued support to Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova.
Held via a video teleconference, the event connected representatives of 20 countries based not only in Vilnius but also in Warsaw, Tallinn and Riga.
