On March 12 Minister of National Defence Arvydas Anušauskas discussed bilateral and multilateral cooperation, topics of cybersecurity and disinformation at a meeting with Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Lithuania HE Brian Olley.
“The United Kingdom plays an irreplaceable role in the European security. Your contribution to the NATO enhanced Forward Presence and the NATO Air Policing Mission is of great importance to us. We also see the Joint Expeditionary Force as a powerful instrument of deterrence and defence,” Minister said at the meeting.
According to A. Anušauskas, the UK is a strategic ally to us and the entire region. Brexit is not going to have any effect on the close bilateral defence cooperation.
The United Kingdom is one of Lithuania’s main strategic partners in the fields of security and defence. Lithuania and the UK are in close cooperation in both, bilateral and multilateral NATO, Northern Group formats. Lithuania also participates in the UK-led Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) formed by 9 European countries. The JEF is yet another measure for strengthening Lithuanian and regional security, as well as the European military capabilities. The JEF maritime component is conducting manoeuvres in the Baltic Sea at the moment.
