On February 5 Minister of National Defence Arvydas Anušauskas met with Ambassador of France to Lithuania HE Claire Lignieres-Counathe. Minister thanked France for the contribution to the efforts to enhance the security in the Baltic region. France deploys capabilities to the NATO Air policing Mission in the Baltic states, NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Groups Lithuania and Estonia, international military exercises in Lithuania.
Minister also praised the excellent bilateral military cooperation with France, close cooperation in the area of military education, free of charge intense language training for Lithuanian Armed Forces and Ministry of National Defence personnel offered by the French Embassy.
Minister informed HE Ambassador that Lithuania took the threats coming from the South seriously and consistently increased military contribution to the security efforts in that region. Almost half of Lithuanian military on international deployments are currently serving in EU and UN-led operations and mission in Africa.
