The Lithuanian Armed Forces began rendering additional assistance to the State Border Guard Service and the Ministry of the Interior at the border with Belarus as of Friday.
“We are doing what we promised – responding to the situation on the border and the needs voiced by the Ministry of the Interior concerning national security. We will continue expanding and increasing the assistance in all directions in order to deter illegal migration into the territory of Lithuania,” Minister of National Defence Arvydas Anušauskas says.
The steady assistance of the Lithuanian Armed Forces goes to patrols in 8 border crossing points, building tent villages and air sheds and maintaining them, and also assistance is increases to put up the razor-wire fence.
As of July 21, the Lithuanian Armed Forces will also contribute to a more effective monitoring and control of the border with mobile surveillance posts and Military Police crews.
