As the numbers of migrants illegally crossing Lithuanian border do not fall, the Lithuanian Armed Forces partnered with the Ministry of the Interior to immediately put up a concertina coil fence on the borderline on July 9.
According to Minister of National Defence Arvydas Anušauskas, the fencing will be a significant setback for illegal migrants and enable border guard officers and armed forces personnel to spot them more easily.
“It will be razor-wire, difficult and dangerous to cross – such a fence will have a substantial impeding effect,” said A. Anušauskas.
Minister of National Defence added that the Ministry of the Interior and the State Border Guard Service are intensely cooperating while the Lithuanian Armed Forces will provide every support required – logistical of personnel.
