The Defence Materiel Agency under the Ministry of National Defence has signed a procurement contract with the Netherlands’ Damen Group on acquisition of a new harbor tug. The contract worth approx. EUR 10.8 million commits the manufacturer to deliver the equipment to the Lithuanian Navy in 9 months.
“Acquisition of the harbor tugboat strengthens Lithuania’s position as a maritime country and supplements the capabilities the Navy needs,” said Minister of National Defence Laurynas Kasčiūnas.
In his turn, Commander of the Naval Flotilla RDML Giedrius Premeneckas added that “the acquire harbor tug will significantly improve the ability of the Lithuanian Navy to implement its different objectives”.
The acquired vessel will be the first brand new ship to complement the composition of the Lithuanian Navy as opposed to all formed projects of purchasing used vessels from other NATO Allies’ navies which would be later fine-tuned to the needs of Lithuania and modernized.

Tug Damen ASD 3010 has a tested design and meet the needs of the Lithuanian Navy. Its large open working deck is suitable for a variety of secondary tasks, e.g. distinguish fires, tug targets, assist with pollution efforts, etc.
