On April 12 Minister of National Defence Laurynas Kasčiūnas met with Minister of Defence of Slovenia Marjan Šarec. Ministers discussed bilateral relations in defence area and security situation.
Minister L. Kasčiūnas noted that Lithuania was monitoring closely the Russian attempts to influence the Western Balkan region and to sway the security challenges facing the South, Middle East and the Mediterranean.
“Despite the geographical distance between our countries, we have a shared perception of threats and face similar challenges. We as an Alliance need to quickly complete the collective defence adaptation, secure an unwavering multilateral military financial assistance to Ukraine and to develop capabilities of the national weapons industry,” underscored L. Kasčiūnas.
Slovenia is a member of the Lithuanian-coordinated European Union PESCO Cyber Rapid Response Teams (CRRT) project and has been invited to join the Ukraine Demining Coalition. Minister L. Kasčiūnas thanked Slovenia for contribution to the NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Groups in Latvia and Slovakia. According to him, NATO forces deployed in the regions are a demonstration of the steadfast unity of the Alliance.
