On November 17 the Seimas agreed to the amendments to the Law on Land, Law on Territorial Planning, Law on Construction, and other laws, proposed by the Ministry of National Defence. The amendments were drafted aiming to simplify the procedures of formation, readjustment and infrastructure development of and in lots of state-owned land for national defence purposes. Cutting the state-owned lot formation and/or readjustment procedures by 3 years, the adopted amendments facilitate a smooth hosting of Allied forces in Lithuania.
As the state and geopolitical situation has changed, a need has arrive to be able to develop military Host Nation Support infrastructure swiftly. Land lots and infrastructure could not be developed for Host Nation Support purposes quickly and effectively before the amendments.
“The amendments to the laws enable us to ensure quality conditions for Allied troops deployed to Lithuania more quickly. We see it as a critical capability as we seek full deployment of the Brigade pre-assigned to Lithuania on the ground sooner,” says Minister of National Defence Arvydas Anušauskas.
