On September 7 – 13 fighter aircraft conducting the NATO Air Policing Mission in the Baltic states carried out 2 alert scrambles to identify and escort military aircraft of the Russian Federation in the international airspace over the Baltic Sea.
On September 10 NATO air policing aircraft intercepted one IL-20 on the way from mainland Russia to Kaliningrad, according to a pre-filed flight plan, with its onboard transponder switched off, maintaining radio communication with the regional air traffic control centre.
On September 11 NATO fighter aircraft intercepted an IL-20 while it was flying in international airspace from and back to Kaliningrad. It did not have the flight plan, its onboard transponder was off, and radio communication with the regional air traffic control centre was not kept.
