On September 5 – 11 fighter aircraft conducting the NATO Air Policing Mission in the Baltic states were scrambled 2 times to intercept military aircraft of the Russian Federation in the international airspace over the Baltic Sea flying in violation of international aviation flight rules.
On September 11 NATO fighter aircraft conducting the Air Policing Mission in the Baltic states were scrambled to intercept one IL-76 flying from the mainland of the Russian Federation into international airspace and to Kaliningrad. Its onboard transponder was off, the crew had no pre-filed flight plan but was maintaining radio communication with the regional air traffic control centre.
On September 11 NATO fighter aircraft also intercepted one AN-26 flying from Kaliningrad into international airspace and to mainland Russia, without the flight plan, maintaining radio communication, with its onboard transponder on.
