On September 25–October 1 NATO Air Policing Mission Detachment fighter aircraft were scrambled twice to intercept aircraft of the Russian Federation flying in violation of flight rules in international airspace over the Baltic Sea.
On September 27 NATO fighter aircraft identified and escorted one IL-20 and one AN-148 en route from the mainland of the Russian Federation to Kaliningrad. The IL-20 did not have a pre-filed flight plan, its onboard transponder was switched off, the crew was not keeping radio contact with the Regional Air Traffic Control Centre. The AN-148 had the onboard transponder on but no flight plan, and maintained radio communication with the Regional Air Traffic Control Centre.
On September 28 NATO Air Policing fighter jets intercepted one IL-20 flying in the international airspace from Kaliningrad and back. The crew had no pre-filed flight plan, kept the onboard transponder switched off and did not maintain radio communication with the Regional Air Traffic Control Centre.
