On July 13–19, the NATO Baltic Air Policing Detachment was dispatched in response to international flight regulation violations three times.
On July 13 NATO fighter aircraft intercepted two SU-30flying through international airspace from Kaliningrad to mainland Russia with their onboard transponders switched on, without the pre-filed flight plans, maintaining radio communication with the regional air traffic control centre.
On July 14 NATO fighter aircraft identified and escorted one IL-20 flying from Kaliningrad and back via international airspace. Its onboard transponder was switched off, the crew had no pre-filed flight plan and were not maintaining radio communication with the regional air traffic control centre. Also, one IL-76 was intercepted flying from mainland Russia to Kaliningrad. Its onboard transponder was on, the crew had no pre-filed flight plan, but were maintain radio communication.
On July 17 NATO fighter jets responded to one IL-20M flying from the mainland of the Russian Federation to Kaliningrad through international airspace. Its onboard transponder was not in use, the crew had no flight plan but were maintaining radio communication with the regional air traffic control.
