On April 26–May 3 the NATO Air Policing in the Baltic states Detachment was alerted in response to international flight regulation violations three times.
On April 29 the NATO fighter jets safeguarding the Baltic airspace were dispatched to intercept two SU-24 flying via international airspace from Kaliningrad and back. The onboard transponders were switched off, the crews had no flight plans and were not maintaining radio communication with regional air traffic control centre.
On April 29 NTO fighter aircraft were scrambled in response to one TU-134 flying through international airspace from mainland Russia to Kaliningrad. It had the onboard transponder on, no flight plan, and kept no contact with the regional air traffic control.
On May 1 NATO air policing fighter jets identified and escorted two SU-24SM flying from Kaliningrad and back via international airspace. Their onboard transponders were switched off, the crews had no flight plans and were not maintaining radio communication.
