On October 12 – 18 fighter aircraft conducting the NATO Air Policing Mission in the Baltic states carried out 2 alert scrambles to identify and escort military aircraft of the Russian Federation in the international airspace over the Baltic Sea.
On October 13 NATO fighter aircraft conducting the air policing tasks over the Baltic states intercepted two SU-30 aircraft following the route mainland Russia ¬– international airspace – Kaliningrad. The aircraft had flight plans, their onboard transponders were on, the crews were maintaining radio communication with the regional air traffic control centre.
On October 15 NATO fighter aircraft intercepted one IL-76 and one AN-26 flying from Kaliningrad to mainland Russia. The IL-76 had no flight plan, its onboard transponder was on, the crew kept radio contact with the regional air traffic control centre. The AN-26 had no flight plan, its onboard transponder was off , the crew kept radio contact with the regional air traffic control centre.
