“Lithuania and Japan are geographically remote but the current security situation makes our cooperation natural,” said Minister of National Defence Arvydas Anušauskas at a meeting with the new Ambassador of Japan to Lithuania HE Tetsu Okazaki. According to Minister, Lithuania and Japan share numerous sectors of defence activity.
“We see the contemporary threats and challenges very similarly, we respect the same principles of the international law and we support materialization of those principles in international relations. We are also bound together by our neighbor Russia that presents challenges. Both, Lithuania and Japan are also constantly faced with the increasing influence of China,” said A. Anušauskas.
Minister underscored that Lithuania seeks to elevate the cooperation with Japan to the level of strategic partnership, therefore, efforts are made to solidify relations with Japan’s public authorities. A future development of a dialogue on regional security and crisis management is anticipated, as well as a closer cooperation on cyber and energy security.
