On December 4 a delegation led by Robertas Šapronas, Defence Policy Director of the Ministry of National Defence, took part in bilateral work consultations in Minsk , met with Chief of the International Military Cooperation Department, Assistant to the Defence Minister for Foreign Military Policy Maj Gen Oleg Voinov.
The Lithuanian and the Belarusian sides exchanged views on the regional security situation and priorities of armed forces development, the largest exercises to take place in 2020, discussed measures that could potentially improve stability, transparency and mutual trust.
Both sides addressed the measures of the cooperation plan implemented this year and main objectives in 2020. It was agreed to maintain the present relations between the Lithuanian and the Belarusian defence institutions in the areas of foreign languages and medical training. It was also agreed to invite observers to major military exercises, to continue holding consultations on arms control, air space security and environmental protection, as well as to continue the cooperation in the quadrilateral Lithuanian-Polish-Ukrainian-Belarusian format. The measures laid out in the cooperation plan set an opportunity to exchange views and answer to each other’s concerns.
Next bilateral work consultations are planned to take place in 2020 in Vilnius.
