December 2, representatives of the Ministry of National Defence of Lithuania and representatives of the Armenian defence signed a bilateral defence cooperation plan. It was agreed by the signature that the Lithuanian Ministry of National Defence will continue inviting Armenian representatives to study at courses at the National Defence System institutions, including English language, instructor, medical personnel courses, as well as to arrange visits by representatives of the Military Academy and the Military Medical Service with an aim to further develop bilateral cooperation and look for bilaterally beneficial directions of cooperation. It was also agreed to have consultations hosted by Lithuania next year.
The Lithuanian-Armenian defence cooperation is conducted on the basis of a bilateral agreement signed by the two countries in 2002.
Lithuania cooperation with Armenia entails the assistance Lithuania is rendering in military training and education and sharing experience on armed forces reform. Lithuania helps Armenia reform its NCO system alongside with the NATO Defence Education Enhancement Programme (DEEP).
