On June 22 Minister of National Defence Arvydas Anušauskas met with the newly appointed Ambassador of Georgia to Lithuania HE Salome Shapakidze to discuss the most relevant aspects of defence and security cooperation between the two countries.
The discussion points included bilateral cooperation, Russian war against Ukraine, Georgia’s integration in NATO and the EU and the critical decisions of the European Council ahead. The European Council will consider Ukraine’s, Moldova’s and Georgia’s EU membership applications at the meeting of June 23–24.
Minister A. Anušauskas underscored that Lithuania would continue supporting Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations at political level and practically.
The defence cooperation of Lithuania and Georgia spans various area, such as military training, cybersecurity, participation in exercises in Lithuania and Georgia together, cooperation between the Land Forces, Special Operations Forces, Military Academies.
