September 13, Minister of National Defence Arvydas Anušauskas left for Latvia to discuss regional security and defence with Baltic and Polish counterparts and Minsters of Foreign Affairs at a meeting in Riga.
The meeting of eight Minsters will address the running challenges the region faces, the response to the hybrid operation waged by the Lukashenko regime, and Exercise Zapad 2021. NATO agenda will be in the focus of the meeting.
On the second part of the day the Defence Ministers will take part at Distinguished Visitors Day of Exercise Silver Arrow at Latvia’s Adazi Training Area, view Latvia’s military capabilities, and join a Latvian Transatlantic Organisation (LATO) discussion on regional security.
Ministers of Defence of the Baltic states and Poland met last week at the informal EU Defence Ministers meeting in Ljubljana, Slovenia. The y voiced a commitment on behalf of their countries to continue the united efforts to protect the borders and to carry out intense information and practical assistance exchange in demonstration of solidarity between the four countries in the face of the hybrid attack. The Baltic states and Poland are conducting a constant cooperation with other allies in NATO and EU formats as well.
