On May 27 Ministers of Defence of the Baltic countries will hold a meeting in Saaremaa Island. Minister of National Defence Arvydas Anušauskas will discuss support to Ukraine and other topical aspects of regional security and cooperation with Minister of Defence of Latvia Artis Pabriks and Minister of Defence of Estonia Kalle Laanet.
Ministers are planned to discuss preparation for the June NATO Summit in Madrid where the Baltic states expect substantive decisions on strengthening the eastern flank of the Alliance. Baltic Defence Minister swill also address acquisition and development of joint capabilities.
Estonia presides over the Baltic defence cooperation this year. The Baltic states have been particularly active in cooperation on officer training at the Baltic Defence College, NATO Air Policing Mission, Navies and joint exercises in the recent years.
Other ongoing efforts are capability planning syncing, coordination of joint procurement, joint exercises, seminars, courses, and cooperation among separate armed services.
