Friday Minister of National Defence Arvydas Anušauskas discussed the most relevant aspects of bilateral security and defence cooperation between Lithuania and Ukraine at a meeting with Ambassador of Ukraine to Lithuania HE Volodymyr Yatsenkivskyi whose term of office is nearly over.
“Our goal is to help Ukraine with integration into the European Union and in seeking NATO membership. We are working to have a EU military training mission established for Ukraine. We are promoting the initiative for the other EU member states and we are seeking more EU visibility in Ukraine,” said A. Anušauskas.
A. Anušauskas underscored that the massing of Russian forces at the border with Ukraine was concerning, as well as the crisis of illegal migration from Belarus at the Polish and Lithuanian borders. According to Minister, we need to strengthen security and stability in our region.
In his turn Ambassador thanked for Lithuania’s constant support to Ukraine’s aspirations of Euro-Atlantic integration, territorial integrity and the inviolability of its borders. He also invited to deepen the cooperation between Lithuania, Poland and Ukraine trilaterally, in the so-called Lublin Triangle.
The joint military unit of Lithuania, Poland and Ukraine, the Great Hetman Kostiantyn Ostrogski Brigade LITPOLUKRBRIG, was established in this format back in 2014.
