On May 6 Minister of National Defence Arvydas Anušauskas is going to Brussels to attend a European Union Defence Ministers meeting.
Minister A. Anušauskas and his European counterparts will approve the security and defence conclusions of the Foreign Affairs Council. Decisions concerning participation of the third states – U.S., Canada, Norway – in the PESCO (Permanent Structured Cooperation) Military Mobility project are also on the agenda.
The European Defence Ministers will also discuss the Strategic Compass, a German initiative that sets out EU guidelines and practical goals in defence, with the main focus on crisis management.
The EU Deference Ministers are planned to have two additional sessions in Brussels. The Ministers will discuss implementation of Coordinated Annual Review on Defence (CARD) recommendations of the 2020 in the European Defence Agency Steering Board, and the role of the European Union Satellite Centre (SATCEN) in the implementation of the Common Foreign and Security Policy and SATCEN way forward at the SATCEN Board.
