Sin January Lithuania received a delivery of half a hundred world’s most advanced armored personnel carriers Joint Light Tactical Vehicles JLTV. After getting the remainder of the U.S.-manufactured vehicles through this year, the Lithuanian Armed Forces will operate 500 pieces of JLTVs in total.
Acquisition of one of the world’s most cutting-edge armored personnel carriers was initiated to ensure supplies for operational needs of the Lithuanian Armed Forces. The acquisition continues cooperation with the United States Allies.
The JLTV procurement was launched in 2019 with a contract signed by the Ministry of National Defence and the U.S. Government. Having concluded the first stage last year with a delivery of 200 Joint Light Tactical Vehicles to the Lithuanian Armed Forces, the next one concerns 300 pieces of JLTV produced for Lithuania by the U.S. manufacturer Oshkosh Defense. This amount is due to be delivered this year.
The JLTV platform will be mounted with the RBS70 NG (MSHORAD) short-range air defence system Lithuania acquired back in July 2024 which is planned to be delivered in 2025-2027.
The advanced JLTV leads in crew protection and better efficiency in intelligence, artillery and air support operations. The JLTV is not only a boost to Lithuanian Armed Forces capabilities but also a way to further develop interoperability of the Lithuanian and U.S. forces.
