The Ministry of National Defence pursues a consistent plan of investment not just in modern military equipment but also ammunition supplies to keep strengthening national defence capabilities. The Lithuanian Armed Forces has added 155 mm HE L15A1 artillery shells bought from KNDS Ammo Italy S.p.A. to its arsenal. The worth of the contract is approx. EUR 3.6 million (VAT not included).
“Increasing ammunition stockpiles is one of the cornerstone decisions in working towards a stronger defence. We have to make sure the Armed Forces have a sufficient amount of ammunition anytime to ensure deterrence, therefore we invest in 155mm artillery shells and other ammunition,” says Vice Minister of National Defence Vitalija Zumerienė.
The 155 mm HE L15A1 artillery shells will be used with the 155 mm PzH 2000 artillery systems the Lithuanian Armed Forces operates.
The type of shell is used for destroying universal battlefield targets. They are effective against light fortifications ad field fortifications, including warehouses and temporary positions, as well as for demolitions, neutralization of lightly armored or not armored equipment, and suppression of enemy fire positions. During peacetime, the shells are used in combat readiness training of the Lithuanian Armed Forces.
