Monday Minister of National Defence Arvydas Anušauskas confirmed at a distance Ukraine Defense Contact Group meeting that Lithuania will continue helping Ukraine to withstand the Russian aggression. According to Minister, Lithuania is ready to organise various trainings and courses for Ukrainian soldiers and instructors and to continue providing Ukraine with military equipment as well.
“We must all work together to bring the war in Ukraine to an end as soon as possible. Ukraine, which has shown its strength, must be helped in every possible way. The most important priority at the moment is training for the Ukrainian military to use Western equipment. Also, to respond to Ukraine’s pleas to support their demining capabilities, so that the territories cleared of occupant forces are safe for civilians again, and the Lithuanian Armed Forces is ready to provide demining training for the Ukrainians and to provide individual explosive ordnance disposal equipment for the trained specialists,” said Minister A. Anušaukas.
Minister also confirmed that the Lithuanian Armed Forces MD Jonas Basanavičius Military Medical Service was ready to admit Ukrainian troops.
“Lithuania will host Ukrainian troops for rehabilitation in the nearest weeks. The Lithuanian healthcare system is also ready to provide medical treatment for the injured military personnel,” said Anušauskas.
According to Minister, the number of countries providing direct aid to Ukraine has increased by 4 to 47 countries.
The contact group meetings of Defence Ministers of the countries which are providing assistance to Ukraine are arranged by the United States so that the Defence Ministers have the opportunity to discuss and coordinate the aid of their respective countries. The next contact group meeting will take place on June 15 in Brussels.
