On the 6th of September the annual friendly football match was organised by the International Relations and Operations Group of the Ministry of National Defence. It took place at the Gediminas Headquarters Battalion. After greeting the participants of the match, the Commander of the Gediminas Headquarters Battalion Lt. Col. Rimvydas Senkevičius expressed his joy with the long-standing tradition of the event and wished good luck to both teams.
This year, the team of foreign defence attachés accredited to Lithuania received reinforcements from the NATO Force Integration Unit Team. However, Lithuanian hosts won a hard-fought 6:5 victory after a series of penalty kicks and defended the trophy. The awards were presented to all the players by Alvydas Koncevičius, long-time goalkeeper of Žalgiris Vilnius.
The captain’s armband of the home team was worn by the Ministry’s Policy Director Vaidotas Urbelis, who was joined by representatives of the International Relations and Operations Group, the Euro-Atlantic Cooperation Group, the Protocol Unit, and the J55 Military Cooperation Unit of the Lithuanian Defence Staff. They played against guests from the Czech Republic, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, France, Hungary and Georgia.
The traditional match was held for the 11th time.
