On April 20 Lithuania will present the primary results of the NAAS, or Development of the National Ecosystem for the Recognition and Analysis of the Information Effect Phenomena, project at the Networking on Sustainable Security in the Dynamic Environment international forum. The unique counter-disinformation instrument developed in the NAAS project aims to be one of the first of the kind in the European Union. The project is conducted by the General Jonas Žemaitis Military Academy of Lithuania and Mykolas Romeris University. Three teams (Elsis Pro UAB with Tilde Informacinės Technologijos UAB, Vytautas Magnus University with TNO of the Netherlands, and Kaunas University of Technology with CERTH) will present the challenges and discoveries of the present phase of the project at the event. The forum will have a guest from the European Anti-Cybercrime Technology Development Association, EACTDA.
Unique in the EU
The pre-commercial NAAS procurement initiative aims at developing a unique information space surveillance, recognition and detection system which could close the gap between practical and scientific activities, facilitate leaning, research, testing and applying innovative technologies in practice and propose advanced solutions. The Lithuanian-developed integrated environment recognition, learning and testing platform is among the first of the kind in the EU.
The new instrument will simplify and systematize information analysis and contribute to the scientific advancement and improvement of educational processes. “We are designing the NAAS product in collaboration with the Lithuanian military and we expect other agencies working on this area to become involved soon – so that the developed system is really helpful in their work, expert training, and responds to the needs of new instrument testing,” head of the project, Dr. Sigutė Stankevičiūtė (Military Academy of Lithuania) says.
According to Mykolas Romeris University NAAS project manager Evaldas Bružė, “the cooperation format will enable universities to train for the market information security personnel who are expert at successfully mitigating and neutralizing current and developing cybersecurity.”
Three major teams presented
Three teams were selected in late November 2020 for the ongoing design of prototype NAAS platform. The teams selected for this stage of the project are as follow: Vytautas Magnus University with TNO (Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research), Elsis Pro UAB with Tilde Informacinės Technologijos UAB, and Kaunas University of Technology with CERTH (Centre for Research and Technology Hellas). By the end of this year teams of the NAAS project will present their prototypes and compete to enter the last stage of the project.
The project:
The NAAS project was initiate by the General Jonas Žemaitis Military Academy of Lithuania and Mykolas Romeris University. The project is financed under the Operational Programme for EU Structural Funds Investments for 2014-2020 and coordinated by the Agency for Science, Innovation and Technology of Lithuania.
