On July 6 Vice Minister of National Defence Margiris Abukevičius had a meeting with Secretary General of the EU External Action Service Stafano Sannino on European Union assistance to Ukraine and major work as well as Common Security and Defence Policy initiatives for the year.
Vice Minister thanked the guest for his personal dedication to increasing assistance to Ukraine and other EU partners via the European Peace Facility and underscored the need to hone the mechanisms of EU assistance to Ukraine still further.
“Ukraine’s most ultimate plea now is not finance, its weapons, because the procurement procedures take time. We need to find a solution to that. The EU support to Ukraine in weaponry needs to become more substantial and effective,” said M. Abukevičius.
Other topics discussed at the meeting were a quicker and more effective EU crisis response by creating a new multilateral rapid response capability, potential enhement of EU intyernational operation effectivemess and acceleration of military mobility projects in our region.
S. Sannino is in Lithuania to receive the Cross of the Knight of the Order for Merits to Lithuania from President of the Republic of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda for his active engagement in supporting Lithuania’s position as it was returning to the European family – joined the European Union.
