It has been unanimously agreed at the NATO Summit in Madrid on June 29-30 to enhance the defence of eastern Allies with forward presence brigades taking into account regional specificities. In Madrid, Minister of National Defence Arvydas Anušauskas discussed the implementation of that decision with Christine Lambrecht, Federal Minister of Defence of Germany, the framework country of the NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Group in Lithuania.
“Deployment of additional capabilities in Lithuania is also a matter of bilateral relations. It depends significantly on the readiness of NATO Allies to host additional capabilities. We aim for more German capabilities in Lithuania and full-scope deployment of the NATO brigade in Lithuania eventually. We have a draft plan, it will require more investment, new infrastructure for a persistent allied presence. We will work shoulder to shoulder with Germany on the implementation of the NATO decisions,” says A. Anušauskas.
Minister A. Anušauskas thanked Ch. Lambrecht for the long-term Germany’s commitment to Lithuania’s security. According to Minister, German officers will arrive in Lithuania in a short while to assess the military infrastructure available here and deployment of the additional strength.
