Vice Minister of National Defence Orijana Mašalė caught up with State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Defence Nils Hilmer on the stationing of the German Brigade in Lithuania during Berlin meeting. N. Hilmer assured the Vice Minister about Germany’s satisfaction with the rate of deployment implementation and standard of the developed infrastructure, as well as of the manning procedure, training and provision conducted in the meanwhile on the German side with sufficient attention and resources from the new German Government.
“Our objective is the same, we are doing everything required to have the critical infrastructure for stationing a German Brigade in Lithuania by the end of 2027. The works are on schedule. At the same time, we are going to develop temporary infrastructure in Rūdninkai to give training conditions to German units in Lithuania until they are stationed permanently. We wish to welcome more and more of your troops deploying to train in Lithuania in 2026,” Vice Minister O. Mašalė underscored.
Vice Minister and State Secretary agreed to tour the developed military infrastructure together after the inauguration of the German Brigade Litauen in Vilnius next week which State Secretary will attend.
O. Mašalė and N. Hilmer also discussed the Vice Minister’s visit to the largest German Army’s base in Augustdorf the day before to familiarize with one of the most modern and best-equipped campuses in Germany, the infrastructure and development, installation and supply standard there..
Other topics discussed at the meeting were defence acquisitions, investment of the German defence industry in Lithuania and collaboration between both countries’ businesses, as well as defence policy priorities of both countries’ Governments, and other international updates.
