On March 30 Minister of National Defence Arvydas Anušauskas met with a delegation of the National Assembly of France on a visit in Lithuania. The discussed topics covered regional security, the Russian war against Ukraine, bilateral cooperation, international missions and operations.
Minister met with Jean-Louis Bourlanges, Chair of Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Assembly of France. His delegation was accompanied by Ambassador of France to Lithuania HE Alix Everard. A. Anušauskas underscored that Lithuania was looking forward to French leadership in strengthening the Eastern flank of NATO.
“Russia’s war in Ukraine has fundamentally changed the security architecture of our region. This must be a turning point in the perception of Russian threats. Lithuania not only seeks to expand the Lithuanian-French bilateral cooperation but also expects a political and military French leadership in strengthening NATO’s Eastern flank,” said Minister.
France is an important partner of Lithuania in security and defence. The French Air Force has flown eight rotations of the NATO Air Policing Mission in the Baltics to date, the French troops take part in the NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Group Lithuania and military exercise alongside Lithuanian colleagues.
