In the evening of February 24 Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania took into account the Russian activity that threaten Lithuania’s security interests and approved declaration of state of emergency. It comes into force at 1.00 pm on February 24 and expires on March 10, at midnight.
Herewith, derogation of constitutional rights and liberties and other measures a state of emergency requires were confirmed.
Part of the m
easures – use of state reserve, state border guard enhancement, search of persons and vehicles –– are introduced specifically as a result of the current state of emergency. The Lithuanian Armed Forces will be supporting implementation of the latter two of the measures.
