Friday Minister of National Defence Arvydas Anušauskas and Federal Minister of Defence of Germany Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer discussed over the phone an incident in Lithuania which resulted in Germany sending home 30 soldiers from deployment with the NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Group Lithuania.
A. Kramp-Karrenbauer expressed her heartfelt regret about the situation and said an investigation was opened in Berlin concerning the incident involving German soldiers in Rukla. A. Anušauskas underscored the cooperation with Germany being among top priorities despite the unpleasant incident.
“The Lithuanian society continues viewing Germany as a country that significantly contributes to the security in Lithuania, both people and investment. The incident that happened ought not have a negative effect on our cooperation which I hold a priority,” said Minister A. Anušauskas.
Minister A. Anušauskas also thanked A. Kramp-Karrenbauer for the increased German investment in military infrastructure and invited his German counterpart to visit Lithuania. Minister also touched upon Lithuania’s initiative to launch a EU military training mission in Ukraine.
