On March 23 Minister of National Defence Arvydas Anušauskas discussed bilateral and regional cooperation at a meeting with Ambassador of Estonia to Lithuania HE Kai Kaarelson.
At the meeting, Minister A. Anušauskas praised the close and long-term Baltic cooperation, chaired by Lithuania this year.
“We are currently focussing on the development of capabilities that bring real advantage to the region, as well as on joint efforts in larger formats – NATO, EU, cooperation with the U.S. We can achieve results only if we speak in one voice,” A. Anušauskas said.
Minister underscored that the cooperation with the United States remained Lithuania’s central priority and the U.S. military presence in the region – the strategic goal. It was emphasized that NATO was thee cornerstone security guarantor, therefore it was important that deterrence and defence was kept in NATO’s attention.
According to Minister, Lithuania’s key priorities in the European defence agenda are cybersecurity and military mobility and, accordingly, cooperation in those areas is very important. Estonia was invited to hold bilateral consultations on cybersecurity.
