On March 17 Minister of National Defence Arvydas Anušauskas took part in a virtual Defence Ministers conference on Afghanistan at the invitation of Federal Minister of Defence Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer.
Ministers of Defence of the 16 allies that contribute to Operation Resolute Support agreed to continue the concerted coordination of the engagement in Afghanistan and to support the efforts of the international community to achieve a lasting peace in the country.
“Just like the rest of the allies, Lithuania speaks firmly in favour of a solidary decision-making concerning further engagement in Afghanistan,” Minister of National Defence A. Anušauskas told after the conference.
The conference initiator, Germany, is responsible for the TAAC-N of Operation Resolute Support in Afghanistan and has the largest contingent there: the allied forces are supporting local security forces. Lithuania has roughly 40 servicemembers in Operation Resolute Support.
