On July 14–15 Minister of National Defence Raimundas Karoblis is visiting Grunwald, Poland, in composition of the delegation of the President and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Lithuania to take part in the commemoration of the 610th anniversary of the Battle of Grunwald.
Soldiers of the Lithuanian Armed Forces Honour Guard Company will also travel to Poland to ceremoniously lay flowers at the Battle of Grunwald memorial while wearing reconstructed 14th c. uniform and gear of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and modern infantry battledress. Lithuania was sending troops with reconstructed 14th c. uniforms to take part in the enactment of the Battle of Grunwald in Poland every year from 2008.
The Battle of Grunwald was won on 15 July 1410, it is one of the largest and most important battles. United army of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the Kingdom of Poland, under the command of Grand Duke Vytautas and King Władysław II Jagiełło, defeated the Teutonic Order and stopped its two hundred years old aggression eastwards. The victory protected the territory of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania from further harassing and plundering. It is the historical pride of Lithuania and an event which elevated Lithuania’s authority among countries in Europe and Asia.
