On June 25 Minister of National Defence Raimundas Karoblis discussed implementation of key aspects of NATO defence agenda in order to strengthen deterrence and defence in the region at a meeting with Commander Allied Joint Force Command Brunssum General Jörg Vollmer. Minister congratulated General on the recent appointment and expressed delight about the fact that during his career with the German Armed Forces Gen Vollmer had amassed substantial expertise and experience concerning topical matters in the context of the region that would be of great value in the implementation of key NATO decisions.
On a visit in Lithuania on June 23 through 25, Commander Allied Joint Force Command Brunssum General Jörg Vollmer also met with Chief of Defence Lt Gen Valdemaras Rupšys, and other representatives of the Lithuanian Armed Forces on June25. The Lithuanian military leadership discussed with the guest the security situation in the region, aspects of defence planning, and activities of the NATO units deployed in Lithuania – enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Group, Force Integration Unit, Baltic Air Policing Mission. The visit is also aimed to facilitate interaction of Lithuanian Armed Forces and NATO command structures, further enhance military cooperation and regional security.
This is the first visit by General Vollmer in the capacity, however, he carried out numerous visit to Lithuania as Chief of the German Army.
The Allied Joint Force Command Brunssum is responsible for command and control of the NATO mission in Afghanistan, Resolute Support, and for coordination of NATO deterrence and readiness for defence.
