President of the Republic of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda and Vice Ministers of National Defence Edvinas Kerza and Eimutis Misiūnas, and Chief of the Defence Staff of the Lithuanian Armed Forces Maj Gen Gintautas Zenkevičius paid a visit to the Gen Silvestras Žukauskas Training Area in Pabradė to meet with military personnel serving with the Mechanised Infantry Brigade Iron Wolf of the Lithuanian Armed Forces and German troops with the NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Group, to visit the camp of the U.S. battalion and to view military equipment.
One of the main objectives of the visit was to familiarise with the international Exercise Iron Wolf that wrapped yesterday. The exercise included nearly 1,000 military vehicles, roughly 3,000 soldiers were manoeuvring in the training area and surrounding territories at the same time, and the total number of training audience was nearly 4,000.
The equipment used at the exercise included the PzH 2000 self-propelled field artillery howitzers recently procured from Germany. The President will visit firing positions of the General Romualdas Giedraitis Artillery Battalion to see soldiers training to provide artillery support with live ammunition.
The Head of the State also toured the Urban Warfare facility which is made up of 26 buildings. The facility replicates actual conditions in an urban area, it also already has a building for close quarters training which is something the Lithuanian Land Force did not have before.
