On October 30 Vice Minister of National Defence Vytautas Umbrasas discussed security situation in the region, bilateral and regional military cooperation, and EU and NATO security and defence initiatives with Ambassador of Hungary to Lithuania Gábor Diczházi.
“Hungary is a reliable partner to Lithuania that makes significant contributions not only to the security of our country but to the security of the entire region,” Vice Minister of National Defence Vytautas Umbrasas said.
Lithuania and Hungary have developing bilateral defence cooperation since 1997.
Hungary contributes to a stronger security of Lithuania and the Baltic region by deploying soldiers for training and exercises in Lithuania and by helping to train Lithuanian Air Force personnel.
Hungarian Air Force Detachments carried the NATO Baltic Air Policing Mission in 2015 and 2019, and is planning to deploy again in 2022. Hungary also contributes to the NATO Force Integration Unit in Vilnius.
Lithuanian and Hungarian soldiers were on standby together for the NATO Response Force and trained in joint international exercises.
