In the end of March Vice Minister of National Defence Giedrimas Jeglinskas and Director of the Defence Materiel Agency under the Ministry of National Defence Sigitas Dzekunskas conducted a visit to Latvia and Estonia to discuss bilateral cooperation and review aspects of trilateral Baltic cooperation, such as ways of using the U.S. assistance for capability development and its efficiency, with leadership of the respective Ministries of Defence.
The meetings also addressed enhancement of cooperation in defence area and specific measures for countering arising threats, also, concrete ideas of defence capability development the countries were implementing were shared.
Representatives of the Ministries of Defence exchanged information on the projects launched and already in progress, such as infrastructure projects conducted by the method of public-private partnership or Latvia’s project for procurement of helicopters from the United States of America, etc.
“Sharing lessons learned from these projects and agreement to exchange information would enable not only a better quality of development of national military capabilities and increase their compatibility but would also identify potential areas for cooperation and lay a stronger “foundation” of trust for joint projects in the future,” Vice Minister of National Defence G. Jeglinskas said.
