On May 11–17 the NATO Baltic Air Policing Detachment was alerted to patrol the airspace over Latvia and Estonia three times, and in response to international flight regulation violations – three times as well.
On May 12 NATO fighter jets were dispatched to intercept one IL-20 flying from mainland Russia to Kaliningrad. Its onboard transponder was on, the crew maintained radio communication with the regional air traffic control but had no pre-filed flight plan.
On May 14 the NATO aircraft policing the Baltic skies were scrambled to identify and escort two SU30S on the way between mainland Russia and Kaliningrad. Their onboard transponders were switched off, the crews had no pre-filed flight plans and were not maintaining radio communication with the regional air traffic control centre.
On May 15 NATO fighter aircraft conducted two scrambles to patrol the Latvian airspace.
On May NATO air capabilities were patrolling over Estonia.
On May 17 the air policing fighter jets were dispatched to intercept an uncrewed aerial vehicle potentially present ion the Latvian border and to locate an uncrewed aerial vehicle in the Lithuanian airspace.
