September 25, Minister of National Defence Arvydas Anušauskas met with Ambassador of Sweden HE Lars Wahlund. They discussed the potential enhancement of Lithuania’s cooperation with Sweden when it becomes a new member of NATO.
“We anticipate to see Sweden as a new NATO member soon. Your accession will doubtlessly improve security in the Baltic Sea region and strengthen the Alliance even more. We can see a strong potential for a closer cooperation between our countries,” Minister said at the meeting.
A. Anušauskas noted when addressing further bilateral cooperation that Lithuania wished to tighten the ties in the areas of air defence and maritime defence.
Minister and Ambassador also discussed assistance to Ukraine. Sweden was invited to join the formed demining coalition with financial contributions of necessary equipment.
