Poland has become the fifth country to join Regional Cyber Security Centre, a branch of the National Cyber Security Centre of Lithuania. On January 13 the adherence documents were signed in Vilnius by Secretary of State at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister Janusz Cieszyński.
“Cyber-threats know no walls and are shared by the entire region, therefore the step of our neighbor Poland is critical for strengthening the Regional Cyber Security Centre, it will facilitate a clearer view of the cybersecurity situation in our region,” said MoD Chancellor Kristina Deviatnikovaitė at the signature ceremony.
Lithuania and Poland are consistently increasing cooperation on cybersecurity. In 2022 both countries’ Ministers of National Defence agreed to strep the cooperation on cybersecurity and formed a bilateral task force. In the same year, the bilateral cooperation agreement was signed between national cybersecurity centers of the two countries and the joint Lithuanian-Polish team took the second place in Exercise locked Shields 2022, the largest cybersecurity exercise in the world.
“We need develop regional cooperation initiatives, especially now hen the war has become real and increasingly more digitalized. The RCSC is a perfect practical initiative for enhancing our security. Poland will be an active contributor and invites other to follow suit,” said J. Cieszyński.
The Regional Cyber Defence Centre was opened in 2021 and serves as the main platform for practical cybersecurity cooperation with the United States of America, also joined by Georgia, Ukraine and Poland.
The RCSC carries out analysis of cyber-threats and shares relevant information with partners, arranges exercises, training events and analytical research in the area of cybersecurity.
